Business design and psychological safety
In the book The Fearless Organization, author Amy C. Edmonson highlights the importance of psychological safety in organizations, including creative environments. The collective creative process is innately iterative and relies on candid feedback.
With business design, the logic is similar because it is a creative and investigative process.
Psychological safety is the belief that the work environment is safe for interpersonal risk-taking. The concept refers to the experience of speaking up with relevant ideas, questions, or concerns. Psychological safety is present when colleagues trust and respect each other and feel able to be candid.
Therefore, if business design is a tool in a creative company, it is important to nurture a culture where it’s safe to express ideas, ask questions and admit mistakes.
